I am so damn tired of explaining this stamp to people. If they read the damn description I wouldn't have to repeat myself so much.
This stamp is for others who do not condone screencap vectoring, the vectoring of laser disc images and official art, the altering or coloring of screencaps, official art or manga or the stealing images from Japanese websites.
FOR CLARITY 1. If you're doing vectors off laser disc images, merchandise, screen caps or any kind of official image - that COUNTS AS TRACING. You're not creating original art. Nothing can convince me otherwise. You're not drawing something with your own hand, you're just going over an image someone else drew.
2. Edits, recolorings and just changing the hair or eye color of coloring book pages and/or official art IS NOT ORIGINAL ART. I know you might have worked hard at it, but try putting a pencil to paper and try working hard at that instead. You'll be much better rewarded and no one will accuse you of being a thief.
3. References are A-OK as long as you didn't trace it. All artists use references from time to time, including pictures and models. Don't be afraid to say you used a reference if you did.
I was looking around deviantart today at Sailormoon fanart, and was absolutely enraged by the amount of fanart that has been ripped off of Japanese fanartists. I reported a fair number of them, but there is only so much you can do, and so many you can catch.
I've become a sort of a watchdog for this kind of thing, and urge other users to do so too. It's not fair to the people who work hard at their art to steal it and claim it as your own.
So I made this little button to spread the word. If you're proud of being an artist who does not trace, copy, or steal please display this image!
Booyah! Totally agree! Don't you just love the galleries with tons of different 'styles'? You know- when they've stolen from several different artists and then try to say they were trying out a new technique?
>.>; And then they have tons of pageviews while actual artists struggle.. I get kinda touchy about pageviews and high fave counts for stuff that is ripped.
And sorry about the above comment sounding kinda... stiff. I was typing with my Wii.
I DON'T THINK THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH TRACING......
personally i have been drawing for many years and still need some sort of reference because i'm not too hot with anatomy from scratch etc.....
it's very hard to do and i think that a 'no tracing' policy would put a lot of artist here on da out of buisness....especially those artists who are just starting out.
Tracing is cheating no matter how you look at it. You are *not* creating art when you trace, you are stealing someone else's work and passing it off as your own. That is wrong!
So yes, I am an art snob and I have a right to be because I create my OWN art. I have worked very hard to get to the level I am at, which isn't spectacular, but I am proud of it because it is MY OWN.
